Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:INHALATION-MAJOR POTENTIAL ROUTE OF
EXPOSURE. DEPRESSION OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. EXPOSURE ABOVE
1000 PPM CAB CAUSE ADVERSE EFFECTS ON VISUAL PERCEPTION & MOTOR
SKILLS. VENTRICULAR ARRHYTHMIAS & VERY RAPID RESPIRATION HAVE BEEN
OBSERVED IN INDIVIDUALS EXPOSED TO 15,000 PPM. SKIN-PROLONGED OR
REPEATED CONTACT CAN CAUSE IRRITATION, DEFATTING OF SKIN, &
DERMATITIS. ABSORPTION OF LIQUID THROUGH INTACT SKIN IS POSSIBLE,
CAUSING SYSTEMIC POISONING, BUT THIS ROUTE IS UNLIKELY. EYES-SLIGHT
INJURY TO EYES. VAPORS CAN IRRITATE. INGEST-SINGLE DOSE TOXICITY IS
LOW TO MODERATE.
Explanation of Carcinogenicity:TRICHLOROETHYLENE IS NOT LISTED ON THE
IARC, OSHA OR NTP CARCINOGEN LISTS. THE ACGIH HAS CLASSIFIED
TRICHLOROETHYLENE IN CATEGORY A5 AS AN AGENT NOT SUSPECTED AS A
HUMAN CARCINOGEN.
Effects of Overexposure:INHALATION: SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE ABOVE 100 PPM
INCLUDE HEADACHE, NAUSEA, VOMITING, DIZZINESS, VERTIGO, FATIGUE,
LIGHTHEADEDNESS & COUGHING. HIGH CONCETRATIONS OR PROLONGED
OVEREXPOSURE CAN CAUSE UNCON SCIOUSNESS & DEATH. EYES: LIQUID CAN
CAUSE PAIN. INGESTION: IF VOMITING OCCURS, TRICHLOROETHYLENE CAN BE
ASPIRATED INTO THE LUNGS, WHICH CAN CAUSE CHEMICAL LNEUMONIA &
SYSTEMIC EFFECTS.
Medical Cond Aggravated by Exposure:ALCOHOLISM, ACUTE AND CHRONIC
KIDNEY OR LIVER DISEASE, RHYTHM DISORDERS OF THE HEART AND NEURITIS
AND OTHER DISORDERS OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM.
First Aid
First Aid:INHALATION-REMOVE TO FRESH AIR. IF BREATHING HAS STOPPED,
GIVE ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION. CALL PHYSICIAN. SKIN-REMOVE
CONTAMINATED CLOTHING/SHOES. WASH AREA THOROUGHLY WITH SOAP & WATER
FOR 15 MIN. EYE-F LUSH IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER FOR AT LEAST 15 MIN.
IF IRRITATION PERSISTS, CALL A PHYSICIAN. INGESTION-DO NOT INDUCE
VOMITING. CONTACT PHYSICIAN OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL FACILITY
IMMEDIATELY. NOTE TO PHYSIC IAN: ADRENALIN SHOULD NEVER BE GIVEN TO
PERSONS OVEREXPOSED TO TRICHLORETHYLENE.
